"With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die..."
―Stephenie Meyer, finally having a good idea.

Midnight Sun is Twilight, written from Edward's point of view, to be released on August 4, 2020. Stephenie Meyer claims that she began writing Midnight Sun as "an exercise in character development that got wildly out of hand" (more like an exercise in shameless milking that got wildly out of hand).

And, indeed, something got very out of hand on August 28, 2008, when somebody leaked a partial draft of Midnight Sun. According to Meyer (who, it seems, is not the best judge of character), different versions of the manuscript were given "to trusted individuals for a good purpose." For instance, she gave one to Robert Pattinson so he could better understand his character. It is rumored that it is he who leaked in revenge of having to play Edward. When she received news of this leak, Meyer issued a statement that stated; "I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely." With this she revealed herself to the world for 13 year old girl that she is.

How the cover would look like. Probably. The actual book features a pomegranate.

When news that Midnight Sun was canceled hit the Twilight fandom, there was an uproar. Many fangirls rushed to comfort Meyer, in an attempt to get her to restart work on Midnight Sun. These attempts failed, to the relief of many, who did not wish to read several hundred pages of Edward whining about how stupid humans are. Since Stephanie Meyer has stated that she won't work on the book again until she has not heard about it for at least two years, people who do not want to see this further violation of the English language published may wish to pointedly bring it up at 729/730-day intervals.

Once the Twilight fad calms down (which it indeed did after Breaking Dawn Part 2), Smeyer will write Midnight Sun in order to get her fans back. It's only a matter of time before she notices her fans leaving to do something else. And the fan base did indeed move on to bigger and better things; the linked series being notable examples. And, on May 4, 2020, she announced that Midnight Sun is happening.

Midnight Sun ItselfEdit

Meyer herself acknowledges that, in Midnight Sun, "the writing is messy and flawed and full of mistakes." A quick look at the manuscript reveals 9 instances of the word "chagrin" (a record number), showing that Meyer remains as fond of the word as ever. The final release will probably have more instances of “chagrin”.

It also is most likely the draft that is going to be published this August, as we know from Meyer's previous writings, she publishes first drafts and never bothers to make revisions to try to improve the writing.

Most of the leaked book consists of Edward going "Oh, how I love Bella!" to "No! I want to suck her dry! I must stay away! To do so, I will stalk her!"

Leaked on purpose?Edit

There is some evidence that SMeyer may have leaked the book on purpose then stopped writing it after the Epic Fail backlash. See this article for more info.

On May 4, 2020, Stephenie Meyer announced that Midnight Sun is officially coming out on August 4, 2020.

Why cancelling a book, even if you reveal it years later, just because it has been leaked is a really really stupid and immature idea.
